Just what I’ve been looking for, May 29, 2013
Having finished chemo and radiation treatments I have become quite a ‘post cancer hippie’ with regards to all of my personal products. I don’t want anything with a bunch of toxic ingredients. Once you really start looking at the ingredients list of products… well, it’s more disturbing that I ever realized. I use the EWG skindeep database and try for only products that score a 2 or below, but have a few that are 3 or 4. ([…]I have been using the Juice Beauty tinted moisturiser and this refining finishing powder as part of my daily routine for about 6 months now and I couldn’t be happier. I like that it’s available at Ulta so I was able to figure out the exact color combination that was right for me, but now that I know I like to be able to just order here. (The Sand is a little too dark and the Ivory is a little too light, but using the sand moisturiser with the ivory finishing powder is perfect!)One tip for the moisturiser – if it’s feeling heavy or looks streaky, you are using too much! I use a serum before the moisturiser and it’s perfect!
Their foundation and concealer are also great products, but I find I don’t need that for daily use, just special occasions when I want to dress up a bit.

After MUCH research, trial and error – the natural beauty products I have happily settled on that are 1)Low in toxic ingredients, 2)Still quality products that work well and 3) Readily available on Amazon:

Burt’s Bees Radiance Serum (Toxin score: 1)
Juice Beauty Refining Finishing Powder (Toxin score: 2)
Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer (Toxin score: 3)
Larenim Blush (Toxin score: 2)
SANTE All-Natural Eyeshadow Stick (Toxin score: 2, the blue, green, rose and pearl are all pearlescent, but the coffee, olive and white are more matte; the rose, white and pearl are good for highlighting.)
Ecco Bella Mascara (Toxin score: 1)
Lavilin Deodorant (Custom toxin score: ~3)
Avalon Organics Vitamin C Cleansing Gel (Toxin Score 3)
EO Everyone Soap Lavender and Aloe (Toxin Score: 3)
Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo and Conditioner (Toxin score: 2)

CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor (Toxin score: 4, not bad and the performance is worth it to me.)

I hope this is helpful for others with the same intention.

9/30 update – I decided to start a blog with all of this (and more as I go)- if you’re interested it’s at PostCancerHippie.com or facebook/postcancerhippie

They’ve changed it: less powder, but container is better. Still wheat free, February 19, 2014

For my olive skin with neutral undertones, this powder is a spot-on match in tan and provides moderate coverage used as a gluten-free foundation – excellent setting as finishing powder. Though I don’t like that the formerly .35 oz container is reduced to .28 oz, I do like that they redesigned the inside, adding a real plastic cover instead of a sticker between the makeup and the lid to keep the unused powder fresh and confined, while you’re using the lid for applying the powder.Three years ago I switched to this powder because it was gluten free. Wary there might be product changes in addition to the packaging upgrade, I contacted Juice Beauty this February (2014) to confirm. When asked if this was wheat-free, they replied that it was (yay)! My experience with Juice Beauty in general has been a mixed bag. The sensitive skin apple peel and exfoliating cleansers have worked wonders for getting rid of blemishes, but their concealer underperformed for undereye circles and spots. For this finishing powder though, I have only high praise. Will definitely buy again.

Really like it, but depends on what’s underneath, June 18, 2013

This review is from: Juice Beauty Refining Finishing Powder, Sand (Health and Beauty)
I don’t really have oily skin, but some moisturizers keep me very shiny. It’s more like my skin doesn’t absorb quickly. I use this over the Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer – Sand, 2 Ounce, which leaves me very shiny, and the powder is not able to remove the shine. I try waiting a little to let the moisturizer be absorbed, then use a tissue to wipe the residue back off, *then* apply the powder. It’s a lengthy process and is just OK.If I use this over a moisturizer or foundation that doesn’t leave me shiny (like the Neutrogena stuff I was trying to get rid of by going to something more natural), then it’s OK.I will try Perfecting Foundation – Ivory I guess, once I can find a better price for it than .

EDIT:

Upping this to 5 stars. I got rid of the Juice Beauty Tinted Mineral Moisturizer. Instead I use the Juice Beauty Perfecting Foundation mixed with a pea-size amount of organic virgin coconut oil. Believe it or not, the coconut oil doesn’t leave my skin oily at all. I wait a minute, then apply the Juice Beauty refining finishing powder and it’s now perfect, and perfectly natural!
